HI DAD TAKEOVER: Your wife has had her whole world turned upside down
You’ve got a big journey ahead of you, it’ll be tough at times, really tough, but you’ll love it. I don’t think you’ll know you love being a Dad until you get used to it, and that can take a lot longer than you think. I know that you’ve always wanted to be a Dad but don’t feel bad about feeling like you can’t do it some days, or think you weren’t made for it, you were and you’ll bring up an amazing little 18 month old daughter who will be the precious thing you’ve ever been responsible for, she’ll love you so much and although it will take time for her to show it when she does it’s the best feeling you’ll ever feel, it’s like love but times 100, it’s a feeling you never thought would be possible to feel.
The first few months will be tough on your wife, you’ll think some days that you’ve lost the person that you married, but don’t worry it’ll be ok, you’ve just got to be strong. It’ll be hard, hard to be strong when you don’t know how to make things better but just hang in there, it’ll all be worth the hard work and you must remember to have patience, your wife has had her whole world turned upside down and although you’re in it together she is the person who is feeding your daughter when she cries and looking after her whilst you’re at work. Remember to tell her how much you love her and how she is doing the best job of being a Mum, you know she’s already hard on herself and she’ll be even harder after the arrival so you’ve got to soak up all the bad from her and get rid of it.
It’ll almost feel like the fog has disappeared one day, you won’t really know it’s going then suddenly things feel easier, you’ll be in a totally different place than you were a couple of months in and things will start to become fun, so just don’t worry, worrying won’t make you feel any better, just enjoy the good bits and that’s what you’ll remember the most. You’ll be the best Dad to your daughter, and along with your wife you will be an unstoppable team of three.
